Nowadays people use many different sized screens - many different computers have different sized screens - descktop pcs and laptops often have different resolutions - some may be widescreen.
Then there are mobile devices e.g.smart phones like iphones or blackberrys. Once you add into the mix, the fact that people use different versions of Internet Explorer and some people use other browsers such as firefox, then you begin to get a picture of how many different ways your website can be viewed.
Because of all of these different scenarios, it is crucial to test your website for all of the different screen resolutions and browsers. I test all of my websites fully as part of my design service - checking that the website displays correctly.
